The 2014 or XXII Winter Olympic Games will be held between 7th and the 23rd of February in Russia. Events like ice hockey and ice skating will be held on the Black Sea coast at a place called Sochi while the ski events will be in the mountain region of Krasnaya Polyana.
Back in July the International Olympic Committee announced a some new events for the Winter Games. These include ski slopestyle, snowboard slopestyle and snowboard parallel special slalom.

Freestyle Skiing

Slopestyle is all about spins, grabs, grinds, or flips off the kickers. The course is more downhill than aerials, with a range of features including rails and jumps being placed down the slope for the skiers and boarders to take advantage of. Skiers in this event will have twin tip skis which allow them to land tricks facing the wrong way without the skis digging in and pitching them off balance. Snowboard parallel special slalom is a more technical version of the giant slalom which is also an Olympic event. Also into the mix is the ski half pipe. If you have seen the snowboard half pipe, you will know how crowd grabbing that event is going to be. Why should the snowboarders have all the fun!
The regular ski and board events are also there. There are a range of Alpine skiing medals to be won, including Alpine combined, Downhill, Giant Slalom, Slalom and Super G, along with medals for cross country skiing, freestyle skiing - aerials, moguls and ski cross, Nordic combined, snowboarding - giant parallel slalom we have already mentioned, plus half pipe and snowboard cross, and of course ski jumping.
